Agriculture is particularly important to the economies of small towns, and Cumberland is no exception. Farmers invest in their operations, supporting jobs in farm machinery manufacturing and other industries, and they purchase goods and services from local businesses.
There are farms near Cumberland that are very successful in selling their products at regional Farmers Markets and to local restaurants. Cedar Rock Farm, for instance, also offers CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) shares, where customers pre-pay for quality organically-grown produce available once a week between mid-May and mid-October. Situated in the beauty of Mountain Maryland, many working farms serve as multi-purpose facilities and retreat centers as well.
